Organ Donation

Organ donation is giving the gift of life by providing an organ, organs or a partial organ to be transplanted into one or more people. Organ donors are usually deceased, but some organs can also be donated by living donors.

What Can Be Donated?

While the list of organs and tissues that can be successfully transplanted continues to grow with advances in technology, eight of the major organs can be transplanted, along with corneas and tissues, including bones, bone marrow, skin and heart valves.

Deceased donors can donate: Heart, intestines, kidneys, liver, lungs and the pancreas.

Living donors can donate: One of their kidneys, a lung, or a portion of the liver, pancreas or intestine.
